China Safety: A Train Wreck
If you are curious and want to know what it looks like from the front of one of China’s high speed trains, here are a couple of short video clips. Note the interesting hand gestures made by the conductor. In the first, a sweeping hand across the control panel. In the second, a brief fist pump.
That second gesture is presumably the conductor acknowledging his colleague coming from the opposite direction. As passing trains experience a combined speed of 300+ miles per hour on these tracks, you have to wonder what’s the point there. At any rate, a bit of local color in the middle of the discussion on rail safety in China.
